Finally got a chance to go try for Kings on Sammamish. Got to the gate at 6:15 and got in line with a dozen other boats waiting for the gate to open. More people got in line behind me shortly after. They opened the gate right at about 6:30 and we all rolled in. I was surprised at how well organized the launch was with the "pay your fee then launch your boat setup". For having so many people launching at one time, it all went very smoothly and there was always a launch available for the next guy coming in. Most people had nice boats and setups, but a couple of us were pushing our little rigs. One guy in front of me had an 8 foot wooden pram that he rowed out to Issaquah creek. It took us a little while to get our gear in the water just due to the nature of my boat and the sun was peaking out at us by then, so not ideal. That was about 7am. Must have been 40 boats on the water with more arriving. Most everyone was trolling flashers or dodgers, but a couple of people were jigging. We trolled a couple of dodgers and tried red, green, blue, and black hooks with various leader lengths. Trolled mostly at 1.5 mph, but varied that a couple of times to see if it would help....it didn't. Saw one trout caught right away by someone using flashers and hoochies. About an hour in and the guy in the rowboat pulls up what looked like a 3 lb trout, but he went to marking it on his catch record card, so must have been a salmon. It was a good looking color. That was it for action for the day. Didn't see anything else caught and we had, what might have been, one hit. The finder showed some bunches of fish, but most were out away from the creek mouth. Most of the fish on the finder were hanging between 30 and 50 feet down. There were a few people fishing within the outter stakes and a couple of guys fishing from shore right at the mouth. I have to say that for all the boats in the small area I didn't see any tangles and most everyone was pretty courteous. I'm sure it'll get more crowded at Sept. rolls around though. Most everyone cleared out by 10am and we got off the water at 11:30. Beautiful morning, but no fish.
