Hi again, I realize I may be wearing everybody out on my reports. I just post because It's awesome to share reports that are true and to also share the experience I feel when I am out fishing this gem of a lake in the middle of Suburbia. Shhhh don't tell anyone.

Today I started fishing on the lake at about 1:00 til dusk. I was astonished by the amount of seagulls and ducks and terns swimming and picking the bugs off the surface. The lake was dead still this afternoon and the hatch was quite in process.

I got out and fished about a 1/2 mile North of the weather buoy in 80+ ft of water and trolled my needlefish 30 yds behind the boat in about 10-20 ft of water. The bite was a little slower comparatively to the past few times I was out, however, I was able to catch and release about 15 fish in the time I was out (roughly 4 per hour) The fish were large averaging 14-21 inches. I caught 3 fish today that were over 20 inches (Estimated). They all swam back for another day. I troll with barbless hooks and find that I lose very few fish. It helped today, because I caught a trout that had an unfortunate hookup whereby the hook was in between it's gil (but didn't rip it). I was able to slack the tension off the hook and the hook slid out without any damage at all. I've been able to release fish that otherwise would have had perished because of this.

Hopefully, the fishermen cashing in on this great fishing will continue to enjoy and respect it and don't kill their catch. 1 or 2 fish over 14 inches provides a great couple meals for 2 and hopefully you don't feel the need to keep the limit of 5 since this fishery is a native (non-stocked) fishery. The fishing has been great and I hope it continues. Have fun and tight lines!!

Scott

Nice day on the water! Do you know of any good trout lakes in South King County or Pierce County?

Hi Scott
I have also been fishing the lake. But you seem to have it more dialed in than me.Can you give me some more information on the lure you are using and are you using a dodger with it? .I to am a C&R fisherman also and like you would like to see more people limit there killing of these great fish.I fished it three weeks ago and also there were gulls feeding on the bug hatch. But I tryed all the gear in my tool box spoons, squid, worms ect.And only hooked one fish and my buddy hooked two on a fly rod pulling leaches.

Thanks for the report and also for sharing the viewpoint on maintaining this great fishery! I have been fishing lake Washington and would like to get to know lake Sammamish better! Can you please tell me where in the lake the weather buoy is located!

A likely dumb question, if I may.

Is it possible to target the Sammamish cutts off the bank, or do you absolutely need to have a boat to fish for them?

Thanks
