THIS IS A REPORT FROM A FEW WEEKENDS: i live close, so i am lucky enough to fish the lake a lot. i need to post more! here are the last two trips:

For the time of year, fishing has been great on Sammamish!!! i didn't get to go this week because of weather (small boat, big waves!), so i thought i would finally get to my reports which i have been meaning to do of so long.

Day 1:
i went out at the very end of january with a man from the WDFW, to maybe shoot an informative video about the lake Sammamish Cutthroat trout fishery. it was our second time out together (last one was not in our favor...almost a year ago) and it went great!!! we had so much action, we didn't get enough film!!!
we fished a 4/0 dodger with a 2' leader to a home made wedding ring/smile blade thing 120 feet behind the boat. fished for about 4hours, got 7 in the boat, and 5 missed. wanted to find some schooling perch, but couldn't find any on the sonar, so we called it a day early and cooked some great fish on the pan and in the smoker!

Day 2:
went out with a buddy on 2/7 for a few hours with a buddy of mine to test out my NEW BOAT! fish weren't quite as active, took a couple moves to find the feeding fish. took a while to figure out the boat, (trolling speed...etc). fished a walleye rig with a smile blade 24" behind a sling blade on one rod, and a wedding ring 6" behind a dick nite dodger on the other. missed 3 in a row on the sling blade rig before getting one in the boat. during this time, not a single bite on the dick nite during this time, so i switched to a red wedding ring 48" behind a ford fender. picked one up right away and then had to head in.
we were out for around 3.5 hours and went 2/6. (terrible catch rate, but hey, it was the first time in a new boat and we still got 6 hits!)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
all in all, the fishing has been great for end of January - february so far!! normally my trips are much slower this time of year. did all my fishing between 1.3 and 1.7mph and didn't use my downriggers at all (although other fisherman out were and did well.) all lures were tipped with a nightcrawler, although trophy trout scent from Macks works very well also.

can't wait for that next opportunity to hit the lake again!
tight lines and i hope to see some WashigtonLakes members out on the water soon!

good luck and good fishing!

ya know, i just realized i posted the photo with the trout that really looks like a kokanee. it is not a kokanee however. I got this one with the guy with the WDFW and it was just extremely dark topped and silver bellied. upon close examination, it has the right spots and cuts under the gills. it is all legal and good. remember to pinch your barbs Jan 1-April 15 and never keep Kokes in Sammamish!

Nice report. So you've just been long lining and not running off the downriggers?

Sammamish is a great lake for cutts. They do seem to be a tad on the skinny side compared to Lk Washington. Not sure why other than maybe to much competition from the kokanees for food even though kokanees are supposedly vegans. Wedding rings tipped with worm chunk about 15 inches behind a slingblade about 30 feet or so down and 100 feet back seems to be the hot ticket.

I had to ditch the kayak and went out with a buddy from church that had a nice boat due to the wind and rain, we ended up getting one each, him off the down rigger 20ft, me with lead line. We both lost two, fished from 10-1. Supper fun lake right now, troll at 1.5- 2.8, 10/15ft down, 150-200ft back. You will catch anywhere on the lake from 12-pm, the bite seems to be done around 3.

Hey great comments! Yeah. I was just flatlining for the most part. I intended to use my downriggers but the bite was better without! I use my riggers all the time otherwise. Deep six divers work well also. I pick up a lot of Kokanee in the fall and December... Didn't know they were vegans. They seem to like my worm and wedding ring just fine! Cutts here are on the skinny side most of the time. December I get my biggest ones. Into the mid 20" range. The bite really picks up around 9, but they bite all day long from my experience... Planning to hit Lake Stevens tomorrow if the wind doesn't die down.

Tight lines!!!
