well, all good things must come to an end, and this trip was the last of this vacation. the daily grind starts on monday, and a business- oriented trip to california starts sunday. AND family get togethers friday and saturday. so, this was it. and it was a good finale.

the goal of this vacation i had was to take my mother out and have her catch a fish in my new boat. she hadn't fished with me for a very long time and i greatly missed fishing with her. after all, she got me hooked on it! i have been able to hone my skills so much since we last fished for "opening day stockies" up at Pine Lake. i mean... i have had a few boats now and have moved to much different... one might say slightly more "advanced" fishing. after two tries... mission complete.

Mom, Gracie the Wonder-Dog, and i got a late start today and didn't make it to the launch until 8:40 and weren't launched and running until 9. made a run up to the Bass Cove area and trolled north up the lake. put one rod on the top (150 ft back), and one on the downrigger at 21'. had a disappointing start when my sonar wouldn't work on my Lowrance. i tried everything to fix it for 40 mins and couldn't get it. during this time, i had my lines out, and from what i could tell from my chart plotter map, i was between 70 and 80 FOW. after i had settled my anger with my Lowrance, i sat down for a snack. after i broke out the sandwich, my mother INSISTED on trying to fix the Lowrance (i am younger, my mother is older, i thought she had no chance at fixing it...). as she was trying, there was a tick on the downrigger rod, waited a second, popped the clip, reeled up the slack, and yelled FISH ON! i passed the rod to my mom and asked her to bring this fish to the net. Gracie the Wonder-Dog jumped up in excitement. after a very short fight, we had a nice 13.5" fish in the boat. MISSION COMPLETE!!!!! this had some characteristics that reminded me of a rainbow (pinkish glow, speckle pattern was more like a rainbow) so i am thinking it might have been one of those cut-bow hybrids.
as i was attending the the fish (and dancing a little, gracie and i threw a quick tail-waggin dance party) my mom fixed it!!!! she did it!!!! she admitted it was pure luck and it just kinda started working, but it is always nice to have someone with the magic touch!

after that, the wind and rain really picked up and we headed for the dock. waves got pretty large, so we were glad to get off the water. it was a great day for trolling for about an hour. rated it a 4 because it was such a wonderful time it was fantastic way to end 3 nice fishing trips.

i have also seen multiple bait balls in about the 60 FOW range. maybe perch? they look similar to Lake Washington from what i have seen. might have to drop a crawler down there sometime.

all in all, i had a wonderful 3 days fishing with my mom. she is such a wonderful woman who taught me a love for fishing and much more. Because of her, i am a capable young man with an athletic and academic scholarship to a Division 1 school for soccer. Because of her, i am able to do what i love and love what i do. thank you mom, it was a pleasure to fish with you this weekend and thank you for being so loving.

Great post. I'm glad you have the perspective to see what your mother has done for you, good stuff. Yeah, those are perch, take a drop shot with a crawler. Catch one and then fillet it and use large strips of the meat for bait. This is the best way to get the larger perch. They love to eat perch meat and the bigger the bait the bigger the fish

It has been really entertaining reading all your posts from the last 3 days. It makes me want to get out on the water! Thank goodness for moms though.

Open up the trouts mouth, as big as it gets, and look along the bottom jaw, if you see a red/ping line it a cutty.

Wafisherman20 from the looks of it your mother raised you right. All the best for you with your Futbol and academic scholarship too, a sport I grew up enjoying very much as a youth as well.

i looked for the marks when i got him. if they were there, they were very faint. i looked up some "cutbow" hybrid photos, and it looked like that. whatever it was, it was delicious!

thank you all for your informative and kind remarks. this website is such a great community for anglers. it is nice to share fishing information and learn about fisheries from people with similar interests.

it is an honor to have people read my posts. i sure appreciate it.
