On Monday March 15th 2010 my buddy Dan and I got a late start and were on the water at 11:00 am. It was sunny and 50 degrees and the water was like glass. We fished a favorite spot of mine near the South end of Camano Island that from experience I know holds kings, and as always there was no one there. After about an hour Dan’s rod went off and he played a fish for maybe 20 seconds before it spit the hook. After that we saw no action for about 45 minutes before we decided to head to South West Hat Island where I have read recent reports of anglers catching fish. We arrived, found the ledge and fished there for about 40 minutes without a bump so back we went to my long time spot we had originally started at. By this time the wind was blowing and the waves were at 2 feet. As I began to set my gear, Dan’s rod goes off and the fight is on. Minutes later we are looking at a 32 inch hatchery King that we estimated at about 13+ pounds. After cleaning the fish we discovered that the cable on the downrigger Dan was using had gotten tangled up and although we both attempted to correct the issue it was difficult to do with the the waves and wind so we decided to call it a day and head back to the launch. The fish was taken on a Kingfisher spoon (see pic).

Alright! it's about time we see some nooks being caught. Dave, now are you gonna switch to braid? You can pick up 900' of TuffLine XP for $25 at Outdoor Emporium.

I may just switch G-man. The tangle sucked and as you know, when that wire gets kinked, you have to cut it off or risk losing your down rigger ball. I lost about 60 feet of brand new cable. Just filed a report for today's trip back to our spot. Not a bump in 5 hours.
