We decided to skip the Skok and go to the Westport Jetty! The river was slow and with a few free days we decided to camp at Westport and try the jetty. Really glad we did cause the fishing was CRAZY! We were hooking fish consistently on all different types of methods. The lings were biting great too! We used 1oz-2oz jig heads with banjo minnows, couldn't keep the fish off of those. Also jig heads with grubs. And bobber with pieces of herring. My guy was using a rubber eel that the lings loved! Caught kelp greenling, and rock greenling. The rock greenling are gorgeous fish! Wish I had a fish tank full of them, and their meat is a bright blue! Also caught some black sea bass, and ling cod. And surprise of the day was a large cabezon, my guy hooked it on a jig head with a dark purple grub. Cabezon look beastly, and we cooked up a little piece, and like they say it tastes like crab! We got to stock up on a lot of white meat!

Excellent report. Thank you. All my years of diving around here and I had yet to see a rock greenling until this report. What an amazing fish.

I used to fish the jetty consistently for about 25 years until the last 10 or so, used to catch those rock greenling too, but only on the surf side. We would catch kelp greenling on both sides. You are right about the lings, my biggest was a 27 lb.er caught on a live kelp greenling. Some of the lings have torquise colored flesh as well. Cabs certainly are tasty, one of the best for fish and chips made with panko.Melanie took a 16+lber at Neah Bay a few years ago.Great report, don't forget salmon, I took a great 17 lb. king on a sand shrimp while bottom fishing there more then a couple of years ago.Bob R

We usually fish the ocean side, we always have more luck on that side and get snagged A LOT less, Last year I caught a nice salmon off the jetty with a jig head and minnow. We couldnt seem to catch anything small enough to be used as live bait. Was using small hooks with mussels, for small greenling but only managed to hook some rather large ones!
