First time launching at Camano Island State Park and screwed up right off the bat by paying for a 1 day Discover Pass ($10) at the upper pay station, when I got down to the ramp I found the $7 launch pay site. Crap!

Nice to have such a short run to fish in Elger, but dragged gear for 4 hours without any luck. There were 3 other boats fishing and only one small blackmouth was caught. I did manage to get a downrigger cable in the prop for the first time in 25+ years and lost 12# ball, all terminal rigging, and 80' of cable...Double Crap!

Nice sunny (and Chilly) day on the water, however.

Sorry to hear your disappointment. Maybe my story will help you :) I took two friends fishing with me and both of them lost two setups of snubbers, 12lb balls, flashers, spoons and etc. :) So, my intent to introduce people to fishing cost me about $200

Since you were just there, how was the ramp? They put in a new ramp some years ago but I haven't launched there in a couple. The new ramp design tended to trap sand and small pebbles on the ramp. Last time I was there I had to use 4WD to get my boat out. Another guy with 2WD had to use a shovel to dig down to pavement.

Ramp had some driftwood and kelp on it, but had no trouble in 2 WD.
