Decided to try our luck at Mukilteo see if we could catch anything. We must have arrived right at the peak of high tide as the water was only a few feet from the bottom of the dock. This is what we think killed it for us. The whole day we spent casting right and watching our lines slide to the ferry dock in a matter of seconds it seemed. Maybe we were just ignorant of the tides for the day but I don't remember us having such a hard time staying on the bottom and retrieving in a straight line to the dock. My buddy even through a big ball weight on and still the his line would travel all the way over to the other side of the dock. The wind also didn't help with casting but it wasn't as bad as it had been. We tried a little of everything as far as bait goes. Tried pieces of cured coonstripe shrimp, rotten worms (ALWAYS REMEMBER TO CHECK YOUR WORMS BEFORE BUYING), soft plastic grubs and worms, powerbait (why not), nothing was biting. We were shocked we didn't even get a nibble or a bullhead. Just one of those days, probably try next weekend and show up when the tide isn't flying out of the sound. It was fun watching all the diver ducks so that was a plus. Also parking is now stupid expensive, going to see if there are alternatives to get around paying $8 for a few hours...

Have you had any luck in this spot in the past?

Only caught one good size one last year at this location, unfortunately it was covered in parasites and had worms all inside it. But I hear they are consistently catching them down in the nisqually delta area, big starry flounder are caught down there. Last year I personally had most of my luck at deception past for flounder.

May I suggest using 4 or 5 ounce pyramid weights? Unlike other weights, they tend to dig in and not drift as easily. Also, we're ardent fans of Kayak Point park in Warm Beach. The day use fee is only $7.00. That includes secured parking and full use of the park. KP has a boat launch, pier, camp ground, bbq pits and picnic tables along extensive beach line. Fishing and crabbing off their pier is more productive than shore casting. We did well crabbing there last year. There's plenty of flounder and pile perch and several other kinds of fish. Cock tail type shrimp with the shells on lasts way longer than flimsy over priced sand shrimp. Even better is store bought squid. Chunk it up in about 1" pieces with or w/out shrimp oil. It's rubbery and stays on the hook. In the freezer, it will last years. We car pool to KP which saves on overall costs. Now I've got cabin fever to go to KP *lol*

We would like to meet other responsible fishermen (w/a boat) who fish Baker lake, the Skagit or Marine Area 8-2 on a regular basis. It's me and a friend. We have our own gear and can chip in reasonably or provide a full lunch and snacks. Please be okay with a respectful smoker. Thanks.
