Went out for crab off Camano Head. We had 6 pots and high hopes. Checked the first trap after an hour and could barely pull it in. It was loaded but they were either females or soft shelled large males. Not one legal hard shelled in the bunch. We arrived at about 10 A.M. and stuck it out till 4P.M. We did get our limits of 15 dungies & 3 nice rock crab but it was a lot of work. Not like the old days when it took only one or to sets. We seemed to have better luck in the pots that allowed the crab to get the bait rather than the pots with bait boxes. We had to continually rebait those but I think it paid off. Chicken is a lot cheaper than fresh crab!

It has been a slow year crabbing off the KP pier across from Camano. Do you know when the winter season starts? I couldn't find any mention of it in the regs book. Last year it was mid-October. I use turkey legs secured with zip ties for bait. They last way longer than chicken.

The winter season will be announced on the first of October. I guess we have to wait till then to see when it will open. I agree turkey works better but I couldn't find any & had to buy leg quarters instead. I'm still convinced that if you let them get to the bait that it attracts more into your pot.
