My fishing partner and I gave Lake Sammamish a try this morning for Cutthroat. We tossed the works at the fish, Gods Tooth and Old Goats in several color combinations with and without Sling Blades using downriggers set at various depths between 20 and 50 feet with varying boat speeds. Our fishing line lengths extend out from the boat between 100 and 180 feet. We found the fish to be uncooperative. Another problem was the occasional weed growth which would hang up on our lines and lures. Although it was a perfect weather day for fishing, we hunted and hunted for them in several sectors of the lake for 5 hours but in the end we only scored 3 fish to the boat all of which were released. We lost 2 others and had several missed strike opportunities. The fish we caught were the smaller size Cutthroat between 10 and 12 inches. I had heard through the grape vine the larger fish were being found in 40 to 50 feet of water, however, we sure could not find any of them. In all, it was a challenging day of fishing but very nice to be on the water on a nice calm weather day.

yes, yesterday was a tough day of fishing indeed. we found our keeper sized fish at about 45 feet yesterday, which would be exactly correct according to the grapevine (rmraushcer?). we only fished trout for 90 minutes on the north end after we fished for smallmouth. we ended with 2 nice sized fish and 2 dinks that went back.

FastAction: It made my fishing partner and I feel better knowing you as an an acknowledged expert also encountered challenging Cutthroat fishing yesterday at Lake Sammamish. After the slow going that my partner and I experienced yesterday at Lake Sammamish catching and releasing primarily small dinks, we intend to give the lake a rest for a couple of weeks hoping the fishing will improve for the larger class of fish. Its going to be back to the north end of Lake Washington for the two of us next week where our luck in recent weeks has been better for the larger size Cutthroat as large as 23 inches.

First time poster here. We were at Sammamish that same day you were. I think you passed us with your hands held high in the air. I was in a small 10 foot grey inflatable with two people in it with downrigger‘s. I had a fish on right after you passed us . It was slow for us in the morning but once we found the right color combo we could not keep them off And had to stop using bait (chunk of nightcrawler with a little dick night DNA Kokanee sauce. probably caught about 20 fish that day most of them being in the 15-16 inch range. A couple were were in the 12 inch range. The most productive one was a chartreuse and copper tractor tread dick night dodger With a radical glow Double UV spinner in the chartreuse color. On the other set up we had a 4 inch chartreuse ice sling blade with a radical glow double UV spinner in lime green. The first set up produced the most. Most were caught 35 to 40 feet on the downrigger with a 30 foot setback. But I was just using an electric trolling motor.. most work hard 35 to 40 feet on the downrigger with a 30 foot setback. But I was just using an electric trolling motor. We couldn’t decide whether to go to Washington or some hours that morning glad we picked Sammamish will have to try Lake Washington next time. I always seem to do better at Sammamish. Best of luck and tight lines. Hope to see you out there again.
