I'm BACK on the water. Ahhh yeah. Late in the season but will try to squeeze in as much time as I can while the weather is still nice.

Today was more about breaking in the new motor. After 1 hr of just driving around in circles and saw the gas gauge much lower than anticipated, I pulled up and started making some casts. Wasnt log before I got my first bite, on a jerkbait. Just a dink LMB. 1st fish in the new boat, lol.

Started using the dropshot. Got a bite on something that felt decent but it came off.

Switch back to the jerkbait and I get a strike on a weed bed. Maybe 1# SMB. At least they are getting bigger.

Now I'm out in deeper water with the dropshot and I feel a strike. Set the hook and it feels like a much better fish. See it surface and it's a nice SMB. I'm looking around and realize I didnt bring my net! What a noob. So I had to lip this fish, then use my clamp to secure and get a weight. 2.16#.

Getting into the 2's was a nice surprise since I wasnt expecting much.

Been fishing for about 1.5 hrs now. Caught 1 LMB, 2 SMB, 2 perch. Called it good and continued breaking in the motor. I wasnt sure how much fuel was left, so I cut it short today. Didnt want to be stranded. Saw a boat getting pulled in, in the morning as I was heading out.

Should have posted some pics of the new boat! Nice to get the first few fish out of the way though!

Any tips on how to locate bass this time of year? I have trouble during the summer months knowing how to target SMB b/c I don' t know how deep they are (20', 30' 50', deeper)? I can see how you can drop shot at a depth of 20' or more but how to you fish a jerkbait so deep? I figured those only worked in 10' - 15' of water. Thanks for any tips you can share.

Hi Dustin. The jerkbait was use in shallow water. Less than 10'. I dont really use it in deeper waters, even though I have some designed for it.

I havent been out much this year. But these fish were caught in 5'-20' of water.
