I haven't had much success with winter bass fishing this year. I've been hitting Lake Sawyer lately on my kayak lately because I heard there are smallies in there. I haven't had any success there, so I ventured out to Lake Sammamish. It started out as a really nice, calm morning, but the wind started gusting around 10 am or so. Water temp was about 44.5 F. I mainly fished the points near the boat ramp and state park. I tried dropshot, jig, jerkbait, and deep diving crankbaits. I had a bite on the jig, but whatever it was just bit off a piece of my crayfish jig trailer! It soon got too windy to fish from a kayak and had to turn back in. It was nice to see about 3 other kayaks fishing in the area. Anybody have some tips on where to fish for bass from a kayak on Lake Sammamish?

I fish lake samm a lot but never have much luck with winter bass out here. It really picks up in spring once they start coming in shallow. Fall and Winter is great for trout on the lake.

Thanks a lot for the tip! Can't wait until it gets a bit warmer. Maybe I'll try my luck with trolling for trout when the bass bite is slow.

I've not had much luck with winter bass (actually SMB in general) around the south end....seems like most guys who target them head up the lake and fish the deep points/structure. If you go again, try hitting the sunken forest between Greenwood point and Vasa Park. Or, if you don't want to paddle that far, work your way up the west or east shorelines fishing along the docks.

Thank you for the advice! I'll give both the sunken forest and docks a try. Maybe I can try launching from Vasa Park next time instead of the boat ramp.

My Dad caught a 4 lb smallie in meridian today. Trolling for trout, looking for Kokanee, his gear dropped to the bottom in 40+ fow (heavy weight, inside rod while turning), We thought for sure he was snagged, very lethargic fish. Only fish of the day. Different lake, but 46 degree surface temps and deep lathargic fish still.

Wow, that's a nice smallie! Thank you for the tip! It looks like I still need to be fishing deep.
